Witness to the Unexplained: UFO Sighting Over Selby, North Yorkshire
The skies over Selby, North Yorkshire, held a secret on the Summer Solstice of June 21, 2025. Under the shadowy shroud of night, something extraordinary unfolded. Leaving one eyewitness both awestruck and questioning reality. Over a period of several hours, at least ten strange lights were reported. Was it a celestial coincidence tied to the mystical energy of the solstice? A dazzling meteorological event? Or perhaps a glimpse at technology not of this world?
Below is my detailed account of events. If you were in Selby that night and saw what I saw, please share your experience in the comments. Together, we may unravel this mystery.

A Bright Light in an Overcast Selby Sky
The remarkable night began around 11 p.m. My wife and I had stepped out into the cool solstice evening when we noticed an unusually bright star gleaming through an overcast sky. Oddly enough, no other stars were visible. The sight was strange but not alarming, and we continued chatting, unaware of what lay ahead.
Roughly 30 minutes later, my peripheral vision picked up movement. The bright “star,” which we had dismissed as nothing more than a peculiar anomaly, began to shift. At first, it drifted slowly, mimicking the path of a satellite. Then suddenly, it accelerated, stopped abruptly, and returned to its original position. The movement defied all logical explanation, leaving me both unsettled and curious.
Unusual Patterns and Flashing Lights: A Bizarre UFO Sighting Over Selby
After some time, my wife decided to go to bed, but I couldn’t peel myself away from the enigmatic light. I watched as the object moved in various directions across the sky, stopping and changing direction at will. It performed movements no conventional aircraft or satellite could replicate, including circular patterns.
Shortly after midnight, the sky seemed to come alive. With the clouds now cleared, I spotted what could only be described as shooting stars and flashes that resembled meteors hitting the atmosphere. Around 1 a.m., the darkness behind me suddenly illuminated with brilliant flashes of light. However, there was no accompanying rumble of thunder, as one would expect during a storm. The light show continued, but the silence added an eerie dimension.
Then, things took an even stranger turn at approximately 2 a.m.
Formation of Lights and Impossible Flight Paths
By 2 a.m., I noticed additional lights entering the scene. Two faint objects emerged, moving in unison like satellites. They were soon joined by a third, slightly dimmer light. All three stopped and hovered near the original bright object I had been observing. Their movement was deliberate and synchronised. What could this be? Military drones? It seemed unlikely, given that most commercial drones only have about an hour of flight time. Plus, these objects had no flashing lights or other characteristics typical of drones.
The synchronisation between the lights was extraordinary. When the brightest light moved left, the others followed in perfect formation and speed. I was mesmerised and reached for my phone to record. Although I aimed my phone at the lights, the camera struggled to capture anything but darkness. I continued filming for about ten minutes in hopes of catching even a flicker.
By now, the scene had grown even more surreal. Around 2:30 a.m., four additional lights appeared in a triangular formation, joining the group. There were now eight objects in total. While satellites and even aeroplanes passed through the area occasionally, these lights were like nothing I’d seen before. No noise, no flashing beacons, just inexplicably coordinated movements.
The Grand Finale
At approximately 3 a.m., with fatigue creeping in, the activity seemed to surge once more. Out of the corner of my right eye, another bright light streaked across the sky at incredible speed, curving into an arc and disappearing into the horizon. A second light followed moments later, moving just as quickly before mirroring the arc-like trajectory. These were unlike the earlier formations—not slow, steady movements, but sudden bursts of rapid, controlled motion that defied any rational explanation.
At this point, heavy cloud coverage began rolling in. Most of the lights gradually disappeared behind the incoming veil of grey, though the initial bright object remained visible, weaving between clear spaces in the sky. Could it have been scanning the ground below for something? I couldn’t say for certain, but the thought was hard to shake.
At 4 a.m., my exhaustion got the better of me. The sky had darkened completely, leaving me in silence with the memory of what I had just witnessed.
Missing Footage and Lingering Questions
When I woke up later that morning, the events of the night played over and over in my mind. Resolute, I reached for my phone to review the footage I had captured. But as I searched through my photo and video files, I found nothing. No video. No traces of the ten-minute recording I had initiated. It was as if I had imagined it all, though I know for certain I hit the record button. How could it have vanished without a trace?
This, in many ways, was the strangest part of the experience. Was it a glitch? Was I outsmarted by technology far more advanced than my phone? The questions keep mounting.
Research Into This UFO Sighting Over Selby, North Yorkshire
That evening left me with countless questions, prompting me to dive into online research. Could it have been a natural weather phenomenon? The forecast had predicted storms, which might explain the flashes in the sky. Perhaps a meteor shower accounted for some of the events witnessed that night. Or could drones have played a role? Despite my efforts to uncover answers, my search only led to more questions.
Were There Any Lightning Strikes Over Selby On That Night?
The forecast predicted storms, so I wasn’t surprised to see that there had been some lightning strikes. Not over Selby directly, but several miles away. Looking at the charts, lightning was reported about 70 miles away. Perhaps this could explain the flashes without any sound?

Could Lightning Be Seen With No Thunder At This Distance?

This seems to explain the majority of the silent flashes that I witnessed. But it didn’t explain the flashes of light that looked like meteors hitting the Earth’s atmosphere. These flashes appeared near the objects that I was viewing. So maybe a meteor shower was happening along with the storm?
Was There A Visible Meteor Storm Over Selby On That Night?

Could It Have Been Drones?

What I saw was definitely not the space station. I’ve observed the space station many times before, and this was completely different. Unlike the steady, straight path of the space station, this object moved unpredictably, slowing down, speeding up, and changing directions in ways the space station never does.
How Long Can A Drone Fly?

Could my theory about military drones be correct? Or is the truth something entirely different?
Something Similar To The Selby UFO Sighting
Whilst researching the Selby UFO sighting, I searched YouTube for anything similar to what I had seen. That was when I stumbled upon a channel called Anomalous Daily. This guy witnessed 12 UFOs in one night whilst watching the sky in Portugal. The UFOs captured here on video are quite similar to the ones seen over Selby, North Yorkshire.
Final Thoughts On This UFO Sighting Over Selby, North Yorkshire
Reflecting on that night’s UFO (or UAP) encounter over Selby, North Yorkshire, I am left with wonder and curiosity. The Summer Solstice, often celebrated for its mystical significance, seemed to be the backdrop for an event that defied logic. Could there be a connection between the two? Were these lights natural phenomena, advanced drones, or something far beyond our understanding?
What I know for sure is that I felt humbled in the presence of the unknown. If you were in Selby and witnessed anything similar, please share your story in the comments. Wow—this gave me chills. The way you described the progression from a single bright “star” to coordinated lights and sudden, silent flashes was absolutely captivating. It really draws you in, especially the part where the sky seemed to come alive around midnight.
The part about the missing footage honestly gave me goosebumps. It’s one thing to witness something unexplainable, but to have the only evidence mysteriously vanish? That opens up a whole new layer of mystery.
Have you heard from others in the Selby area who might’ve seen similar lights that night? And would you consider submitting your account to any UK-based UFO research groups or forums? It feels like your experience deserves a wider audience.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed and vivid account—it leaves a lot to think about.
Thank you so much for your comment! I’m thrilled that the account resonated with you.
The missing footage still baffles me as well. Technology glitch or something more mysterious? It adds a layer of unease to an already puzzling experience.
To your point about others in the Selby area, I’ve been digging around and would love to connect with anyone who witnessed similar phenomena that night. If you know someone or come across similar accounts, please share them in the comments.
Submitting this experience to UFO research groups is a fantastic suggestion. I’ve looked into UK-based forums and groups like BUFORA and have submitted my sighting to NUFORC (https://nuforc.org). Their platforms might be a great starting point to not only share but also gather additional insights from experts and enthusiasts.
Your enthusiasm and curiosity mean so much. Thank you for engaging with the post and sharing your perspective. If anything else about this phenomenon piques your interest, feel free to ask.
The reported flight characteristics – sudden acceleration and right-angle turns – are particularly compelling given they match behaviours described in the US Navy’s UAP encounter reports. The witness account of the object appearing to be synchronised with the other lights is also noteworthy, as this has been documented in other high-credibility sightings.
The duration of the observation was combined with that of another witness. Most hoax sightings tend to be brief, whereas this account describes several minutes of continuous unusual activity. The light patterns changing direction also align with known plasma phenomena observed in atmospheric research.
The location near Selby raises interesting questions given its proximity to both civilian air corridors and several military training areas. The detailed description of the object’s apparent reaction to being observed is especially intriguing from a scientific perspective.
Thank you for your comment! Your observations, especially connecting the flight characteristics to the US Navy’s UAP encounters, have given me more to think about. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been doing some research, and yes, it’s true that the synchronisation and behaviour do resemble some patterns noted in other sightings.
Regarding the proximity to Selby’s civilian air corridors and military training areas, it does raise questions about the environmental or human factors at play. Could some testing or rare atmospheric conditions contribute to this event? Or, as many enthusiasts might suggest, could it be something more extraordinary? I’ve recently discovered that encounters like this are common in particular weather conditions. Some people even speculate that this might be some kind of entity that feeds off electrical storm energy in some way. I just don’t know.
I’m eager to hear from others in the area who might have seen similar phenomena that night. If you know of anyone nearby who witnessed this or has come across related accounts, I’d love to hear more.
Your perspective brings so much value to this ongoing exploration of the unknown. Thank you for sharing your insights and for being part of the conversation. If you come across additional research or theories, don’t hesitate to jump back in. I’d love to continue this fascinating dialogue.
This was a fascinating and thoroughly detailed account—thank you for sharing it. The timing with the Summer Solstice definitely adds to the intrigue, especially considering how often that date is associated with heightened atmospheric or even spiritual energy.
I think your comparison to both meteorological events and advanced drones is fair. It’s often a balance between remaining open-minded and sceptical. The synchronised movements and long-duration hovering are what really stand out to me—they don’t match known civilian drone capabilities, and the silence throughout the night adds another layer of mystery. The fact that your video disappeared is chilling, and not the first time I’ve heard of that happening in UAP encounters.
From my own experience, I once saw three orange orbs over rural Ohio moving in a perfect triangle. They hovered, faded out one by one, and never returned. At the time, I brushed it off, but reading stories like yours reminds me how deeply unexplained and strangely consistent these sightings can be across the globe.
My opinion? There’s something out there we don’t fully understand—whether it’s advanced tech, interdimensional phenomena, or something entirely different. The Selby event seems too layered and too structured to write off as a mere storm or coincidence. I hope more people come forward because the more we share, the closer we might get to some answers.
However, I have a few questions:
Have any neighbours or locals come forward with similar sightings that night?
Did you notice any interference with electronics (aside from the lost video), like phones glitching or signal drops?
Was there any radar or flight tracking data available for Selby airspace during those hours?
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your own experience—it’s fascinating how these sightings seem to resonate with so many people across different locations and times. Your account of the orange orbs over rural Ohio is both intriguing and eerily similar to other reports I’ve come across. The triangle formation and the way they faded out one by one definitely add to the mystery. It’s these shared patterns that make me think there’s more to uncover.
To answer your questions:
Local Sightings: A few people in the local area have reported seeing unusual lights in the sky over the past few years. Though their descriptions varied, I have found nothing regarding that night in question.Electronic Interference: Aside from the lost video, I did not notice any other odd glitches with my phone or anything else. Though with the storm that night, the whole atmosphere just felt electric somehow. Radar or Flight Tracking Data: I haven’t been able to access any official radar data for that night, but it’s definitely something I’d like to dig into further. If anyone reading this has insights or knows how to obtain such data, I’d love to collaborate.
I completely agree with your point about staying open-minded yet sceptical. The Selby event, much like your own experience, feels too structured and deliberate to dismiss. The more we share and connect these dots, the closer we might get to understanding what’s really going on. Thank you again for contributing to the conversation—it’s voices like yours that keep the search for answers alive!
Thanks again!
Andrew

I can’t help but feel a mix of wonder and unease after reading about this UFO sighting. The lights dancing across the sky, moving in ways no satellite or drone could, almost feel like something beyond our understanding. The missing footage adds a real twist, as if the universe is hiding the truth from us. It makes me question—are we witnessing some next-level human tech, or is this something truly out of this world? What do you think? Could it be something we’re not ready to understand?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Your mix of wonder and unease really captures the essence of what makes UFO sightings so fascinating!
The missing footage does add an intriguing layer, almost like the universe is teasing us with just enough to spark our curiosity but not enough to give us answers. Whether it’s advanced human technology or something far beyond our comprehension, it’s hard not to feel a sense of awe at the possibilities. I was blown away that night and still can’t get my head around what happened.
Maybe the real question is: are we ready to embrace the unknown, or does the mystery itself hold more value than the answers? Either way, it’s moments like these that remind us how vast and mysterious our universe truly is. What do you think—would knowing the truth take away some of the magic, or would it only deepen the wonder?
Hey Andrew –
I believe there are extraterrestrial beings in the solar system and the universe. You likely saw UFOs on June 21, 2025; however, it is hard to corroborate without video evidence. Nonetheless, the movement of the objects in the sky- accelerating and stopping abruptly- is not common among our aircraft. So, this leads me to believe that this was a UFO.
The video captured in Portugal seems to be a coincidence, because it was a different country.
G
Hey there Godwin! Thanks for posting your comment. Yes, I totally agree that the Portugal video is probably not connected in the slightest. However, I included the video to show a similar example of what I saw on that evening. It was the closest footage that I could find.
I also agree with you about extraterrestrial life. There’s a lot of space out there and to think we are the only intelligent form of life is just crazy. There is something out there. What it is and what is going on in our sky is a mystery, but an intriguing one nevertheless.
Have a great day!
Andrew
